Space Guard Command is a division of the Galactic Confederations Of Allied World's Space Fleet and operates primarily along the borders of Confederation Space. Much like the naval coast guard of centuries past, the Space Guard serves to protect the Confederation's territorial borders and intergalactic shipping routes. Several Confederation service starships have been assigned to the Space Guard Command to assist in combating interstellar piracy, mediate local disputes, conduct search and rescue missions, provide disaster relief, and engage in military interdiction when needed. While interstellar exploration is not part of their mission mandate, from time to time Space Guard vessels may be temporarily assigned to exploration duties when so required by Space Fleet Command.
